Breakdown Estimate How to read it

How to read the result

The monthly estimate adds food, toilet supplies, care, insurance, medical reserve, and other monthly inputs. The first-year estimate then adds one-time setup, administrative items, and occasional costs, and subtracts only items that can safely be shared.

The buffer is a household planning margin, not a required or guaranteed amount. If you are not sure whether an item can be shared safely and hygienically, set the shared-item deduction to 0.

For the reasoning behind each cost item, read the related guide: How much does multi-pet ownership cost in Japan?

Input guidance

Item How to enter it
Monthly costs Enter the added monthly amount for food, litter, pet sheets, care items, insurance, and similar recurring costs.
Medical and preventive-care reserve Enter the amount your household wants to reserve. This is not a prediction of veterinary treatment costs.
One-time items to buy again Use this for bowls, beds, carriers, crates, toilets, escape-prevention items, emergency supplies, and similar setup items.
Administrative and registration-related costs For dogs, check dog registration, rabies-related procedures, and microchip information through official sources before entering an amount.
Annual or occasional costs Use this for pet hotel or sitter use, simultaneous clinic visits, travel, emergency stays, or replacement purchases.

Items to check next

If you are adding a dog, check dog registration, rabies vaccination certificate tag procedures, and microchip information with your municipality and official sources. If you are adding a cat, check litter, toilet count, escape prevention, carriers, air conditioning, and separation space.

For a dog-and-cat household, separate dog and cat food, toilet supplies, boarding options, and cost estimates. This tool keeps the calculation in Japanese yen and does not replace municipality, clinic, insurer, or provider confirmation.
